MASSA MARITTIMA (GR) – Komoot is a trusted companion for everyone, a scheduling, visualization, and information platform that continues to grow (and evolve). Komoot has also become a portal for map and point-of-interest consultation, not just for cyclists.
Behind this tool—because it is a useful tool for cyclists of all categories —is a huge amount of work, including in collaboration with device manufacturers. We asked Daniela Withalm, Komoot's director of partnerships, a few questions.
How many users does Komoot have today?
By 2025, we had over 7,3 million users, with over 55 million registrations on the platform . These are truly significant numbers that are constantly growing.

In your opinion, is there a factor that helps the platform's constant growth?
Over the years, users have generally become accustomed to living with and exploiting digital technology , a factor that has also raised expectations. These expectations are precisely an important behind-the-scenes aspect, because they sometimes involve a huge amount of work done in concert with the players in the device market . See Garmin and Wahoo, to name just the most popular.
How long does it take to develop a new Komoot feature or tool?
Much depends on the interface and the resulting relationships that develop between our development team and the brand that owns the device. Sometimes a couple of months of work is enough, other times it takes several.

Are you the ones who propose new solutions and tools to device brands?
Yes, we generally propose the technology, and from there, a real consultation begins. The end result is the same for everyone, but the integrations are different and vary between different companies . Garmin works differently from Wahoo and vice versa, as do other players.
Is there a category of cyclists that uses Komoot more than others?
Surely the worldwide success of the gravel, from the bikepacking and cycling experiences/trips, are among the categories with growing numbers. They have different needs than those who travel familiar routes. At the same time, it would be necessary to analyze each country individually to identify the specific characteristics, but I could say that the macro category gravel it is the most active one.

Is the main concept still that of sharing?
Komoot was born as a community and intends to remain so. The more active and proactive the community, the greater the chances of growth , accuracy of information, and up-to-dateness of all the information orbiting within the platform. Relationships with the players/companies that collaborate with us are certainly important, but our users remain our primary focus.
Is it the same community that also suggests new interactions with “modern” devices?
As a Komoot team, we're constantly on the lookout for new trends and upcoming products, but we also listen to our users . The recent features launched for Apple Watch and the latest generation of Wahoo devices are a prime example. The way we use the product is changing , and the products themselves are changing at an incredible rate. But more innovations are on the way. The platform is constantly evolving.
