MASSA MARITTIMA (GR) – Fizik renews its top-of-the-line off-road footwear, la ferox which now adopts the suffix 2. Ferox 2 Carbon is a shoe created for the competitive rider, but is also considered as an all-road performance shoe, highly appreciated in the field gravelIn pure Fizik style, it combines its own design and technical solutions, elegance and top-quality materials.
Renewal starts from the form, for a foot positioning that changes significantly (compared to the first generation Ferox). Over time, the concepts of bike fitting have changed radically, both in mountain biking and in gravel and also for these reasons the geometry of the footwear changesLet's see the new ones Ferox 2 Carbon in detail.
Fizik Ferox 2 Carbon, how it's made
The closure system and the construction of the entire upper part of the new shoe are immediately noticeable, and this is where our observation begins. The upper is constructed using a latest-generation laminated PU membrane with highly breathable mesh inserts. In this way, Fizik has achieved a compartment capable of conducting heat to the outside of the shoe , capable of adapting to the shape of the body , supported where needed and where the closure must hold the foot. The fabric is resistant and long-lasting.
Last but not least, the crown that wraps around the ankle (finished and reinforced with a hem) and the tongue, constructed from a single block . The previous version featured an upper fabric that was completely different in terms of materials and structure, and a tongue that was separate from the rest of the upper.
The closure system is double, consisting of a Powerstrap Velcro that also tightens in the arch area and a Boa Li2 rotor , with a crossed cable that winds on mobile plastic loops. The sole is in X1 carbon , with high-grip rubber inserts. It is SPD-compatible.
Foot stability
The first time we wore the Fizik Ferox 2 Carbon, we found a sort of comparison with the Vega Carbon road model . The foot was wrapped and supported, almost as if it were housed (not supported) inside the shoe.
Compared to the Vega, the Ferox 2 is more comfortable due to its off-road design, which involves some differences, thanks to a less rugged upper . It adapts better because it “has to work” differently than a road shoe . Overall, the stability of the foot improves, thanks also to the shoe’s very low drop between heel and forefoot.
Some numbers of the new Fizik shoe
The sole has a stiffness index (on the Fizik value scale ) equal to 10. This is high, but it is also true that it is supported by soft and mellow studs , also useful when getting off the bike, and by an upper that almost moulds to the shape of the foot.
It has a declared weight of 295 grams (size 42). It is available in sizes 36 to 48 and has a list price of 329 euros . Three color combinations are available.
